Is there a future For Jewish life in Britain?

After Caroline Glick's statement that Jews should leave Britain, Michael Coren, born in England, who is a major commentator in Canada today, says that he is very disturbed by the sharp rise in blatant Anti-Semitism in the UK.



He correctly identifies a newly found confidence of intolerance in British society of any Jew who identifies with Torah Judaism and /or a Jew who identifies with the State of Israel. British Jews, whether at school, university or work must prove themselves by being totally secular by making anti-Israel statements or else, face a mass of personal attacks, not only tolerated but encouraged by mainstream British society.

As Douglas Murray (who by the way is not Jewish) says: It would be bad enough if Jews in Britain were blamed and felt pressured to apologise for crimes that their fellow Jews in Israel were doing but the situation is even worse than that. The accusations of Israeli crimes are pure fabrications and lies.

It's a kind of an anti-Semitic double whammy!

The current situation should come as no surprise to any student of Jewish history. Whilst living in Britain I was accused on more than one occasion of murdering their "Lord". The notion that I was somehow personally responsible and had to apologise for what the Jews of the Holy Land did to their "Messiah" some 2,000 years is bad enough. What was worse is the fact that history records that it was the Romans who practiced the execution of early Xtians and that the accusations of Israelite crimes were pure fabrications and lies.

The main point that kept cropping up in this Video interview above is that barefaced unashamed irrational Anti-Semitism is not being condemned by Britain's politicians and the MSM but actually excused and rationalised.

"Muslims would not be so angry and be forced to commit acts of terrorism if it weren't for the Jews..."

I see it whenever I speak to Jews in Britain today. They adamantly deny it but they are scared and constantly on the defensive when it comes to their own Jewish identity. Anglo Jewish leaders are warning not to outwardly show signs of Jewishness in the streets. It seems it's open season for Jews in Britain.

The British Mainstream Media constantly tell you that Hamas (Chamas) are the extremists and the Palestinian Authority (who call themselves Fatach) are the moderate Palestinians who want peace. This is blatent lie.

The truth is that both Hamas and the PLO Mahmoud Abbas say openly that their goal is to wipe Israel off the map and murder every Jew they can get their hands on. The breading grounds for British media antisemitism starts in the universities.

Despite overwhelming proof brought before the university's authoroties that an invited speaker to an Oxford debate was an out and out fraud and liar, it didn't bother them at all. This despicable woman says things that the British academic elite desperately want to believe, no matter whether it is true or not.

This irrational emotional need of the MSM as well as British academia to believe every piece of anti-Israel news, whether unconfirmed or even proved a hoax can only be due to a deep seated hatred for Jews.

Caroline Glick writes about how she participated in a university debate in London hoasted by the "Intelligence Squared" society, a society made up of the elite of British students.

"I was prepared to conduct a civilized debate based on facts and reasoned argumentation. I expected it to be a difficult experience. I was not expecting to be greeted by a well-dressed mob. Some further snippets from her article:

"...First, I can say without hesitation that I hope never to return to Britain. I actually don't see any point. Jews are targeted by massive anti-Semitism of both the social and physical varieties. Why would anyone Jewish want to live there?

As to visiting as an Israeli, again, I just don't see the point. The discourse is owned by anti-Israel voices. They don't make arguments to spur thought, but to end it, by appealing to people's passions. 

For instance, in one particularly ugly segment, Levy made the scurrilous accusation that Israel systematically steals land from the Palestinians. Both Dayan and I demanded that he provide just one example of his charge. And the audience raged against us for our temerity at insisting that he provide substantiation for his baseless allegation. In the event, he failed to substantiate his allegation. 

At another point, I was asked how I defend the Nazi state of Israel. When I responded by among other things giving the Nazi pedigree of the Palestinian nationalist movement founded by Nazi agent Haj Amin el Husseini and currently led by Holocaust denier Mahmoud Abbas, the crowd angrily shouted me down.  

I want to note that the audience was made up of upper crust, wealthy British people, not unwashed rabble rousers. And yet they behaved in many respects like a mob when presented with pro-Israel positions."

British Jewry refuses to understand that they are not dealing here with an uninformed but good meaning press that given enough information and facts, would balance its reporting to be less anti-Israel. What so many British Jews refuse to recognise is that there is an inbred antisemitism within the heart of the elite of Britain which cannot be combatted with mere truth.

The photo accompanying the article is extremely apt seeing that the girl holding the ridiculous piece of paper looks so Jewish. Sadly, the person in Britain who you most likely will come face to face with, when you will need these facts, comes from the secular Anglo Jewish community. I’m afraid years of British media bias and university brain washing have taken its toll on today’s Anglo-Jewish community and it’s quite common, even in your average [Orthodox] United Synagogue, to hear talk of “Palestinian Rights” which is only a euphemism for Anti-Zionism. Just read the article, he explains the concept far better than I could.

The London Evening Standard is the only daily evening paper published in London and is read by millions of Londoners (including many thousands of Jews). In fact, one copy is read by two or three people as there is a tradition amongst London commuters on the Underground, on their way home to the suburbs, to leave their already read copy on the seat of the tube carriage when they leave, for someone else to pick up.

Whilst in London last week, I picked up one such copy to read the following article which I subsequently found on the paper’s Internet site.

This staggeringly spectacularly one sided article makes not the slightest attempt at even appearing balanced to the casual reader. It would seem from the article that the Israeli judge reached his verdict without any evidence at all. Indeed the article tells us that the judge was instructed by the Israeli government to cover up the “obvious” Israeli army’s guilt. This is anti-Israel propaganda at its most crude. The article quotes exclusively from interviews with Corrie’s lawyer and members of the terrorist linked movement ISM. In fact, had the ISM been asked to write an account of the court decision themselves, it is doubtful that they could have done a better job?

I'll mention just some of the evidence that any media report on the verdict should have mentioned. On this particular occasion the so called “Peace Activist” was there trying to prevent the IDF from destroying houses containing tunnels used to smuggle weapons. On other occasions ISM members have been used as human shields to allow Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists to fire at Israeli soldiers whilst preventing the IDF from firing back. However, their most sinister activities are assisting terrorist snipers in murdering Israeli soldiers by standing in open ground and trying to lure soldiers to come and arrest them, at which point the soldiers are picked off. Trying to get someone murdered is not a peaceful activity!

No mention was given to the facts that came out in court that after examining film taken at the scene, so called eye witnesses weren’t actually there at the time and that widely publicised photos “proving” that Corrie had been intentionally crushed were shown to have beeen Photoshopped by ISM activists. The photos were debunked years ago as complete fabrications yet continued to be used by Western media even after the court case. Sloppy lazy journalism or intentional lies?

Is it any wonder that the average secular Jew living in Britain today would be anti-Israel or even if still pro-Israel, would be racked with shame and make sure they kept their mouths shut whilst at work or at college?

You can't escape it. Not anywhere.

As anyone who is raising teenage sons would know, you have to find things of common interest in order to try and persuade them that you weren’t born on another planet. (I was however born in another country which may as well be the same thing as far as they are concerned).

My boys, despite claiming that they are 100% culturally Israeli, nevertheless are fanatic supporters of Arsenal (pronounced “Arsnol”) Football Club, following the game results you could say, almost religiously. My eldest son even submitted his English Bagrut project on the subject of the English FA, dedicating a whole page to his beloved Arsenal and their historic rivalry with the other “Jewish” football team up the road, Tottenham (pronounced “Totnum”) Hotspurs, better known by their nickname, “Spurs”.

In order to keep up to date and have some kind of opinion on the latest Arsenal related matter whenever my sons are home from yeshiva, I am a regular reader of Arseblog, one of the most popular Arsenal FC blogs.

It amuses me that just as a religious Jew might write a particular Avoda Zara (idol worship) by missing out some letters and replacing them with asterisks, so Arseblog refers to their arch rivals at Tottenham as “Sp*rs”. Anyone thinking of going to the site should be warned that it contains the usual football fan related swearwords.

I found this blog rather refreshing and a change from my usual Internet haunts and enjoyed a bit of escapism, following the insignificant discussions over which player was best and how much money the manager ought to spend to keep Van Persie.

Only once in the past have I made a contribution by adding to a discussion about one of Israel’s best players who was on loan to Arsenal for the season, Yossi Benayoun. They were wondering about the level of his English. In fact, Yossi probably has a better grasp of the language than many contributors to the blog. One guy said matter-of-factly that his mother tongue was of course Yiddish. Obviously I could not resist putting them straight and pointing out that Benayoun comes from a Sefardi family and was hardly likely to know more than a few words in Yiddish. I explained to them that his mother tongue was in fact Hebrew which is the national language of Israel. They were most amused!

Then, last week, I was forced to submit another post.  My escapism fantasy world was shattered as I read an article where the author commented that the subject he was writing about was similar to the fact that the Palestinian and Israeli sides were just as bad as each other. I would have let his comment go had it not been for posters who taking their cue from the article, waded in with Anti-Israel comments. One of them I could not ignore:

I pop by the website of HonestReporting.com every now and again to check out the latest article on media bias. A few years ago I would have considered this essential reading but today I question if article after article of outrage at Israel hatred and Jew hatred is simply missing the point.

There is no doubt that there are many anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic reporters and journalists in the British press. They are not on the fringes of British media or given a forum simply for counter opinion sake. They are mainstream writers in mainstream media outlets.

There can be no doubt by any objective criteria that The Guardian as well as other British media outlets have crossed the line between legitimate criticism of Israel and Jew hatred (and I don’t mean a small incursion over the line but a full blown invasion).

One has to ask oneself, why have the so called politically and racially sensitive media watchdogs been either silent or totally dismissive of complaints of Anti-Semitism and allowed these hate publications to continue with impunity?

Why don’t other mainstream media outlets openly condemn these articles and treat them with the disgust they deserve? Silence in the face of hatred amounts to complicity in the crime.

I believe Honest Reporting is doing a fine job in exposing these hate articles but haven’t we got to the stage where there are simply too many of them? In fact, it is rare to find a balanced, let alone pro-Israel article in the British press today and when there is one then the writer is considered at the fringes of acceptable opinion.

At the heart of this issue is the inescapable conclusion that it is not simply one or two British media outlets which express these opinions but indeed the majority. This is a nation which views these hate filled articles as perfectly acceptable and sees nothing wrong with it. In fact, many in Britain would say that it is their moral obligation to spread Israel and Jew hatred wherever possible.

There have always been Jew haters but Britain today is a country which allows them to flourish in mainstream media. One can only conclude that Britain is a morally corrupt and evil society.

Please, someone, anyone, convince me that I am wrong or at least cast doubt on my conclusions.

YNET and Maariv newspapers give honour to the memory of Der Stürmer

I’ve written in the past on my blog about how the secular press in Israel never let a week go by without printing articles full of hatred towards religious Jews, which had they been printed in any gentile paper would be considered anti-Semitic.

Well with this article, the Israeli mainstream press has reached a new low. It was first published in Maariv and YNET and was so good that it was picked up by the World Press as too good a story to be passed by. Of course, the world press had been given a free pass to print this hate fest against religious Jews because their source was the Israeli media and everyone knows that Israeli secular Jews cannot be anti-Semitic can they? The Israeli Press have excelled themselves this time.

Notice the sidebar link to another wonderful article entitled “Why the Rabbis Are Hated”. Don’t YNET realise that they’re reinventing the wheel? This type of incitement to hatred has already been published in the last century by the National Socialist Party in Germany as well as other Nazi Organisations around the world. I’m sure YNET can save themselves a lot of money by simply translating into Ivrit some of Der Stürmer’s most juiciest articles about big nosed evil Rabbis and Orthodox Jews.

The BBC, TIME Magazine, The Daily Telegraph amongst others all republished this story, taken from the English version of YNET.

Well it turns out that this article was not just a distortion of facts, the story was actually a pack of lies from beginning to end, a piece of fanciful invention, a secular fantasy penned by the Israeli reporter. The reporter would have made any Der Sturmer Propaganda writer proud. Kol HaKavod! You will go far in Israeli journalism.

Maariv later published an apology but of course the damage has already been done and the fire of Anti-Semitism has been fanned throughout the world by these self-hating Israelis.

There is however no sign of a correction, let alone an apology from YNET as yet.

The BBC also published a correction and The Telegraph had the decency to be shamed into removing the page from its site altogether after the whole story was found to be a lie.

The Whisky Boycott. More thoughts.

I had an interesting conversation about the Whisky Boycott on Shabbos with a Rav who lives in my local area. (He incidentally enjoys a large Glen Fiddich on occasions).

He made some good points I felt. I had expressed my view that I wasn’t convinced that the distilleries should be boycotted just because they were situated within authourity of anti-Semitic councils, especially being that many of them were doing so much to obtain kashrus certificates and some even had commercial interests with Israel (buying Israeli kosher wine casks), thus implying that they were not pursuing anti-Semitic or Anti-Israel policies themselves. Perhaps we would actually lose any friends we might have in Scotland by boycotting their whisky.

He counted this by asking me how I proposed to make the councils change their policies without hitting them where it hurts the most, that is, in the pocket. He asked me if Scotland produced anything else of significance besides whisky that we could boycott. If the distilleries begin to feel the loss of sales then they will put pressure on the councils to reverse their immoral policies. However, he went on to say that he didn’t see any point in boycotting Single Malts as they were too expensive for most drinkers which meant that the market was too small to make any noticeable impact. (I’m not sure he is correct here). He suggested that the boycott be on all blended Scotch whisky and not exclusively on whiskies in the council’s area but to all Scottish blended whisky. (From my experience, most Israelis, for reasons that escape me, buy Chivers Regal). This he said would express in the strongest terms, our view on the Scottish boycott of Israel.

I then made a rather flippant comment to the effect that I might well subscribe to his suggestion being that I could still be able to enjoy my Single Malts. I immediately angered an elderly gentleman who said that I sounded like those American Jews in the 1930s who refused to join the German boycott due to their love of German products. He told me that had the German boycott been effective then this would have probably changed the whole course of history.

The Conservative and Reform Movements

I noticed that the call to boycott has been taken up by The Reform and Conservative Masorti movements Kiddush clubs. Considering the Reform and Conservative’s poor record of support for Israel in the past, it does leave me slightly puzzled.

The Conservative/Masorti as well as the Reform movements are involved in many left wing pro-Palestinian organisations such as the grotesquely named “Rabbis For Human Rights” organisation. This organisation in particular thinks it’s the “Jewish way” to demand the dismantling of Army checkpoints and the security fences which have saved numerous Jewish lives. Their misplaced and corrupted sense of morality gives aid to Israel’s enemies.

The idea of a boycott

The boycott idea seems to have originated from the pro Zionist blog Muqata. I am very uncomfortable about this boycott for a number of reasons.

Before I begin I feel it’s only fair to say that I’m not objective in this issue as I love Scotland, having visited there many times and am crazy about Single Malt Whisky so confess a bias from the start.

I wrote to the Muqata blog today and am waiting for an answer to my question as to why the blog’s owner selected these whisky companies for a boycott. Muqata kindly published my comment here:

As I explained in my comment post on the blog, the headquarters of Morrison Bowmore are in Glasgow city centre and Bowmore distillery is on the Isle of Islay. The same company however does own a distillery in West Dunbartonshire called Auchintoshan. I'll give them that one.

By the way, until a few years ago, Morrison Bowmore's Computer department head was an Orthodox Jew who had served in the IDF! The company is very much involved in kosher whisky production and possible batches of kosher wine casks in cooperation with Israeli vineyards. Any Whisky company that works directly with Israeli companies (such as Bruichladdich of Islay) should certainly not be on the boycott. (Personally speaking, I'd recommend not drinking Bowmore anyway as its pretty awful stuff. However Glen Garioch and Auchintoshan are quite good).

The Glenlivet distillery is in the Speyside region and is owned by Chivas Brothers whose headquarters are in Paisley which is in the council area of Renfrewshire which is south of West Dunbartonshire. Why the boycott on them?

The third company on the list is Loch Lomond. Loch Lomond's headquarters and distillery are in Alexandria which is within the Strathclyde Regional Council. So why boycott them?

I do think though, that with enough pressure on Morrison Bowmore, they might be willing to make a public statement condemning their own council’s policy. It would certainly endear them to the many whisky drinkers within Am Yisrael and probably increase their sales.

The Telegraph's Adrian Blomfield is openly Anti-Israel

The Telegraph Online published an article this morning about the Arab riots on what the Arabs call Nakba Day (Day of catastrophe).

The article’s headline made it quite clear where the reporter’s bias lies:

"Israel attacks Palestinian border protests"

"Israel was accused of shooting dead at least 13 Palestinian refugees trying to breach its frontiers from Syria, Lebanon and Gaza on Sunday, after a Facebook campaign to storm the borders."

First of all some background:

Syria and Lebanon (under the control of Iran) ordered young men and teenagers to break through Israel’s national border fence and throw rocks and Molotov cocktails at Israeli soldiers.

To side track for a moment. I was amused at some of the comments I heard about Aish’s Yom Ha’atzmaut video song. Some people amazingly thought that it was a cameraman going round the Midrachov in the centre of Yerushalayim randomly filming passers by in a spontaneous manner. I explained to them that in fact the brilliance of the video was that it had been so well staged and choreographed so that the cameraman could make the video in one take.

However, it isn’t just the Israelis who possess these filming skills. Before the Nakba event, the Arab government organisers informed the International Press exactly what was going to happen,(staged just like a film set with timing and position plans), so that the cameramen could obtain the best shots and video footage of these “spontaneous demonstrations of rage”.

The Telegraph’s Jerusalem based reporter is one Adrian Blomfield. Despite his Jewish sounding name his articles are consistently hostile towards Israel

There is no attempt at balanced reporting and the Telegraph editorial seems to be quite happy with this. In fact I’d say that his reporting crosses a red line into anti-Israel propaganda.

Here is Adrian talking about how Britain’s reporting of the Arab/Israeli conflict is less biased (he means more pro-Arab) because “in Britain they aren’t under the thumb of the powerful American Israel Lobby”. Funny how he completely ignores the much larger Arab Lobby and in particular, Saudi influence in Britain and Europe.



His article in today's Telegraph clearly asserts that peaceful (so called) "Palestinian refugees" crossed the border to demonstrate in Israel and were met by lethal fire from Israel, killing at least 13.

He writes:

"But a Druze witnesses said the protesters were peaceful.

"The people came in a peaceful way, they had no weapons," said Taiseer Maray, who runs a medical charity that treated the wounded. "In a peaceful way they stated that they had waited for 60 years and wanted to go back to their homes. But the Israelis shot directly at the people, even though they posed no threat."

The problem is that Taiseer Maray is no objective bystander as Adrian wants to make out. He is in fact head of an organisation to return the Golan to Syrian rule. He is featured on Chamas and Fatach sites as an activist. However, for some reason, Adrian forgot to mention this.

Rather than correctly describing him as head of a militant Anti-Israel movement, Adrian describes him as head of a “medical charity”. Now isn’t that nice? What could be more believable than a human rights medical charity? That is, unless it’s an Israeli organisation, in which case it will be accused of only treating the sick in order to steal their organs and sell them to the highest bidder. This Organ Trafficking accusation (blood libel) was made by amongst others, the “honourable” Baroness Jenny Tonge, who has a seat in the House of Lords.

One more thing. You wouldn't know it from reading Adrian's article but there was a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv to mark this special day in the Arab (and British reporter's) calandar.

The Jerusalem Post reports today that

"Hundreds of people participated in the funeral of Aviv Morag, 29, who was killed Sunday in the truck rampage in Tel Aviv.

He was brought to rest at the Casesaria Cemetery.
